Magical Colors Emerging From The Soul (2017)

This summer, I enjoyed and contemplated the lush colors of roses and the fragrance of lavender. While listening to the songs of cicadas, I saw yellow clouds of colorful monarchs flapping their wings. As an artist who is passionate about colors, nature has provided me with powerful life-force energies and deep inspiration.

Nature, music, African, Japanese and Indian textiles are natural sources of inspiration…

Painting is a spiritual and adventurous journey through which I experience the creative process with more joyful freedom, lightness and oneness as the Source gushes out in the moment. It is a way of being present in the now.

Painting is a way of connecting with that precious place of silence and creative presence within. It is a place where I feel inspired by ancient, original patterns and specific colors.

Day after day, layer after layer, I let emerge slowly, intuitively, and organically fields of colors and open spaces of energies, according to their tones and specificity. A lemon yellow color emerges differently from a pink-red or turquoise blue or fog-purple. I combine certain colors to unleash their full bright and radiant potential energies. Something happens when they begin to sing to each other, and new spaces are formed.

To start the process, I first prepare the surface by sewing pieces of hand made paper, and sometimes fabric, together. I play with the sewing machine. With a thick crayon or marker, I spontaneously draw lines, structures, rhythms and patterns, which are waiting for colors to give them life.

I use many brushes and play with layering colors; I explore new possibilities of light through the darkness of the night and little by little, the painting guides me as it evolves by itself. Certain colors express new spatial dynamic quality; they call out new nuances, tones and elements, bringing more richness to the surface and allowing life to circulate fully in all areas of the painting. The challenge is to keep the breathing spaces through the layers to unify the whole painting. This is why I use inks with Arabica glue an pigments diluted with water.

While I am painting, I feel like a wild/wise child playing and whirling with stars and roses.

I am also bringing something new to this exhibition, an ensemble of columns of colors made with recycled textile cones. They are like ritual totems full of dancing colors, and one can walk through them to nurture one’s soul, body and heart.

“…Now like a singing air creature

I feel like a Rose

Keep opening

My heart turned to effulgent wings

When has love not given freedom?

When has adoration not made one free...”
